Can vinyl flooring be used with underfloor heating or cooling systems?
Yes. All Quick-Step vinyl floors can be used with low temperature systems to underfloor heating or cooling.
Compare the conditions below with regulations at the construction site because requirements may vary.
Types of underfloor heating systems
Quick Vinyl Table is compatible with low temperature underfloor heating. This means that the maximum contact temperature of vinyl cannot exceed 27°C. In many cases, this maximum temperature is more than sufficient. Be sure to mention this to your installer. It can adjust your underfloor heating system accordingly without any problem.
Your Quick-Step Desk can be installed on:
-
Hot water system:
- Wet systems (= combined in a screed)
- Dry system (= placed on dry base floor)
- Electrical system:
- Wet systems (= combined in a screed)
- Dry system (= placed on dry base floor)
Underfloor heating systems must be installed in accordance with the supplier's instructions and generally accepted guidelines and codes.
Vinyl flooring with underfloor heating: things to keep in mind
When combining vinyl flooring with an underfloor heating system, you should ensure that the overall floor is made from materials such as roofing sheets, floor coverings, floor coverings, and other items. is heat resistant does not exceed 0.15 m² K/W. The higher the thermal resistance, the longer it takes for the floor to warm and the less effective the underfloor heating system is.
Quick-Step vinyl flooring is suitable for this application. Quick-Step Vinyl 2.5 mm has a total thermal resistance of 0.015 m² K/W when glued. When surface mounted with underlayment, Quick-Step Click Flex Vinyl 4.5 mm has a thermal resistance of 0.030–0.066 m² K/W and Alpha Vinyl 5 mm has a thermal resistance of 0.035–0.070 m² K/W. Specifically: a glued floor transfers heat a little betterThe heat resistance values of Quick-Step vinyl flooring in our range are excellent. These values can be easily found in technical data sheets or in floor heating installation instructions.
It is important to place a layer of insulation under the underfloor heating, which insulates better than vinyl. In this way, heat is reflected off the soundproofing layer and is transmitted through the floor.
Plastic floor covering and floor cooling
Underfloor cooling follows the same principles as underfloor heating, except that cold water is used instead of hot water. That's why it's important to have an advanced control and security system to prevent internal condensation when using floor cooling. This prevents your floor from being damaged by water. Such "condensation monitoring" is already fitted as standard in many systems. We recommend checking this with your installer to be sure.
For underfloor cooling systems, the recommended thermal resistance is no more than 0.15 m² K/W. Quick-Step vinyl flooring has low thermal resistance so it is suitable for this application.
Installation of a vinyl floor with underfloor heating
Rapid Vinyl floors can be installed in two ways: Lock down or “bay» The general installation instructions unless otherwise stated by our separate instructions for underfloor heating status. Always check with your distributor.
Don't forget to check the humidity of the vinyl floor before laying the vinyl floor. If the humidity is too high, your floor can suffer water damage. This can cause the floor to become moldy and more. So, before leaving your vinyl flooring on the underfloor heating system, make sure that the area is completely dry.
